On “Recycling” Instability of the Scrape-off Layer Plasma

Abstract

A new type of scrape-off layer plasma instability associated with radial inhomogeneity of plasma density, contact of plasma with conducting material surfaces, and neutral recycling is presented. In order to elucidate the physics of this instability, the simplest possible setup is analyzed.
