A cytotoxic oxysterol from the marine alga Padina pavonica (L.) Thivy

Abstract

The dichloromethane extract of Padina pavonica showed a cytotoxic activity against KB cells. An oxysterol, hydroperoxy-24 vinyl-24 cholesterol, 1, was identified as being responsible for this activity.
