Anders als bei Erwachsenen verschlechtert sich die Betazellfunktion bei Kindern und Jugendlichen mit gestörter Glukosetoleranz oder frühem Typ-2-Diabetes auch dann rasch weiter, wenn sie temporär mit Metformin oder Basalinsulin behandelt werden. Dieses Ergebnis der Studie RISE Pediatric Medication bremst entsprechende Präventionsideen in den USA aus.
