Temperament en riskant cannabisgebruik in de adolescentie

Dit onderzoek richt zich op de rol van temperament in riskant cannabisgebruik onder adolescenten. Ook wordt gekeken naar de samenhang tussen temperament en twee andere risicofactoren van cannabisgebruik, namelijk vroeg beginnen met roken en cannabisgebruikende vrienden. Voor dit onderzoek werd gebruikgemaakt van gegevens uittrails, een longitudinaal bevolkingsonderzoek onder ongeveer 2000 jongeren in Noord-Nederland. Uit de resultaten komt naar voren dat jongeren met een hoger niveau van sensatiezucht vaker op jonge leeftijd gaan roken, en daardoor ook vaker op jonge leeftijd beginnen met cannabisgebruik. Daarnaast beïnvloedt temperament de overstap van roken naar cannabisgebruik. Het risico op regelmatig cannabisgebruik blijkt lager onder jongeren met een hoger niveau van aandachtscontrole. Deze jongeren hebben minder cannabisgebruikende vrienden, hetgeen hen beschermt tegen het ontwikkelen van regelmatig cannabisgebruik. De samenhang tussen cannabisgebruik, roken en cannabisgebruikende vrienden ondersteunt de toepassing van interventiemethoden die niet alleen ingaan op cannabisproblematiek maar ook op problemen op andere gebieden.
