Abstract
Self-responsibility is an important type of performance in today‘s work organisations. In this article, the disposition to self-responsible action is theoretically and empirically related to a specific aspect of occupational self-concept. Four dimensions of this specific self-concept are distinguished and operationalised by self-description scales. A first study with 372 students investigates the stability of the self-concept over time and in terms of its correlations with theoretically related traits. A second study with 225 managers focuses on self-responsible action at work as a consequence of the self-concept. Assumptions about stability and consequences are both supported by the results. It is further discussed if the self-concept scale can be used as an indicator of self-responsible performance in diagnostic settings.
