Abstract
The aim of the present study was to explore the experiences and constructed meanings that described counseling students’ purpose in life in relation to their career development. After conducting semi-structured interviews with 22 students, we adopted an inductive thematic analysis approach to the data. Findings suggested four themes: a career is a way to fulfill and awaken to life’s purpose, an awareness of purpose leads to wellness and career growth, the role of counseling in fostering clients’ purpose, and the role of faculty in strengthening students’ purpose. Based on these findings, we have provided recommendations on how to incorporate purpose, a critical component of wellness and career development in counseling sessions and counselor education programs.

Le développement de sens et de carrière : Implications pour l’orientation professionnelle et pour la formation des conseillères L'objectif de la présente étude était d'explorer les expériences et les constructions de sens qui décrivent le but de la vie des étudiantes en counseling en relation avec leur développement de carrière. Après avoir mené des entretiens semi-structurés avec 22 étudiantes, nous avons adopté une approche d'analyse thématique inductive des données. Les résultats ont suggéré quatre thèmes : la carrière est un moyen de réaliser et de s'éveiller au but de la vie, la conscience du but mène au bien-être et à la croissance de la carrière, le rôle du conseil dans l’encouragement du but des clientes, et le rôle du corps enseignant dans le renforcement du but des étudiantes. Sur la base de ces résultats, nous avons fourni des recommandations sur la façon d'intégrer le concept de but, une composante essentielle du bien-être et du développement de carrière, dans les séances de conseil et dans les programmes de formation des conseillères.
Zusammenfassung
Sinn und berufliche Entwicklung: Implikationen für die Laufbahnberatung und die Ausbildung von Beratungspersonen Ziel der vorliegenden Studie war es, die Erfahrungen und Bedeutungskonstruktionen zu untersuchen, die den Sinn im Leben von Beratungsstudierenden im Zusammenhang mit ihrer beruflichen Entwicklung beschreiben. Nachdem wir halbstrukturierte Interviews mit 22 Studierenden geführt hatten, wendeten wir eine induktive thematische Inhaltsanalyse der Daten an. Die Ergebnisse lassen vier Themen erkennen: Die berufliche Laufbahn ist ein Weg, den Lebenssinn zu erfüllen und zu erwecken; ein Bewusstsein für den Lebenssinn führt zu Wohlbefinden und beruflichem Wachstum, die Rolle der Beratung bei der Förderung des Lebenssinns der Klientinnen und die Rolle der Lehrkräfte bei der Stärkung des Lebenssinns der Studierenden. Basierend auf diesen Erkenntnissen geben wir Empfehlungen, wie Sinn, eine entscheidende Komponente von Wohlbefinden und beruflicher Laufbahnentwicklung, in Beratungsgespräche und Ausbildungsprogramme für Beratungspersonen integriert werden kann.

Propósito y desarrollo profesional: implicaciones para la orientación profesional y la educación de orientadores El objetivo del presente estudio fue explorar las experiencias y significados construidos que describieron el propósito de la vida de los (las) estudiantes de orientación en relación con el desarrollo de su carrera. Después de realizar entrevistas semiestructuradas con 22 estudiantes, adoptamos un enfoque de análisis temático inductivo de los datos. Los hallazgos sugirieron cuatro temas: una carrera es una forma de cumplir y despertar el propósito de la vida, la conciencia del propósito conduce al bienestar y al crecimiento profesional, el papel de la consejería en fomentar el propósito de los clientes y el rol del profesorado en fortalecer el propósito de los estudiantes. Con base en estos hallazgos, hemos brindado recomendaciones sobre cómo incorporar el propósito, un componente crítico del bienestar y el desarrollo profesional en las sesiones de asesoramiento y los programas de educación de los orientadores.
