The treatment of bone defect without the use of biotechnologies

Abstract

The Author reports his 7 years’ experience of treatment of more than 200 cases of non union with different sizes of bone defect. The study of the patient and of the non union are the starting point for the correct application of AO principles: compression, tension band, bone graft and osteotomies.

In this paper are described the main techniques with specific tricks. More recently the Author has added a good experience with the Masquelet technique in infected non unions. No biotechnology has ever been used and the bone transport with Ilizarov technique has been reserved only in infected non unions of the tibia with severe injury of soft tissues.
