Mit einer Lebenszeitprävalenz von mehr 90 % zählt Kopfschmerz zu den häufigsten Symptomen in der Allgemeinbevölkerung. Bis zu 70 % der Menschen haben zumindest einmal pro Monat Kopfschmerzen. Voraussetzung für eine adäquate Kopfschmerzbehandlung ist die korrekte differentialdiagnostische Zuordnung. Prinzipiell werden primäre und sekundäre Kopfschmerzen unterschieden. Bei primären Kopfschmerzen, wie Migräne und Kopfschmerz vom Spannungstyp, findet sich keine zugrunde liegende Erkrankung. Bei sekundären Kopfschmerzen ist eine solche nachweisbar, wie zum eine Infektion, ein Schädel-Hirn-Trauma oder ein Gehirntumor.
Summary
The lifetime prevalence of headache is 90 %. Accordingly headache is one of the most frequent symptoms in the general population. Up to 70 % of the adults experience headache at least once per month. Managing headache it is the first step to differentiate primary from secondary headaches, i. e. headache not attributed to a certain disorder such as migraine or tension-type headache, from secondary headaches attributed to an infection, head trauma or brain tumor for example.
