Effect of discrete distribution of dispersion and self-phase modulation in a ∼10-fs Ti:sapphire laser

Abstract.

We numerically simulated the pulse formation in a femtosecond Ti:sapphire laser and investigated the effect of a discrete distribution of dispersion and self-phase modulation. It was found that the discreteness in an actual femtosecond laser leads to pulse broadening and deviation of the pulse shape from that of a fundamental soliton. The high-order dispersion of quartz prisms was effective in relaxing the pulse broadening induced by discreteness. The discreteness effect on the pulse contrast in a femtosecond laser was investigated.
