Experimental study of confocal fabry-perot microwave resonators

Summary

An experimental investigation has been carried out to study the diffraction losses and the field configuration in microwave spherical Fabry-Perot interferometers, used as transmission resonators, in the confocal configuration. We have used an accurate and sensitive technique that allowed us to use very weak coupling and to record the mode patterns with negligible perturbation of the e.m. field inside the resonator. In this wayQ-values of the expected order of magnitude have been measured. The relative field distributions of the electric field inside the interferometer have been recorded for the fundamentalTEM 00 and theTEM 01 andTEM 02 symmetric modes, at the wavelengths of 8.3 and 13.6 mm. The experimental results have been compared to those predicted by the theory, showing good agreement.

Si è studiata sperimentalmente la distribuzione del campo all’interno di un interferometro Fabry-Perot costituito da specchi sferici posti in posizione confocale. I modi studiati sono stati il fondamentaleTEM 00 e i primi modiTEM 01 eTEM 02, alle lunghezze d’onda di 8.3 e 13.6 mm. La sensibilità e precisione della teenica utilizzata ha permesso di registrare la configurazione del campo senza perturbarlo apprezzabilmente e di usare un accoppiamento molto lasco dell’interferometro col generatore e col carico. In tal modo si sono ottenuti valori diQ prossimi a quelli teorici. I risultatis perimentali sono in eccellente accordo con quelli previsti da Boyd e Gordon.

Было проведено зкспериментальное иэучение диффракционных потерь и конфигурации полей в микроволновых сферических интерферометрах Фабри-Перо, испольэуемых как реэонаторы пропускания, в конфокальной конфигурации. Мы испольэовали надежную и чувствительную технику, которая поэволила нам испольэовать очень слабую свяэь и эарегистрировать спектры мод с пренебрежимым воэмушением злектромагнитного поля внутри реэонатора. Таким путем были иэмерены эначенияQ ожидаемого порядка величины. Для основнойTEM 00 иTEM 01 иTEM 02 симметричных мод при длинах волн 8.3 и 13.6 мм были определены относительные распределения злектрического поля внутри интерферометра. Экспериментальные реэультаты сравнивались с предскаэаниями теории. Обнаружено хорощее согласие.
