Summary

The paper is a contribution to the early history of methodology. In the work of Rudjer Boscovich, an 18th century scholar, some inductive logical arguments can be identified concerning the probabilistic appraisal of hypotheses which display originality of mind. Boscovich's arguments are presented and subsequently analysed in terms of Carnap's theory of inductive logic.
