Abstract

A thin-layer chromatographic (TLC) separation of glucose and sorbitol on Cu(II)-impregnated silica gel plates with n-propanol: water (4:1) v/v as developer and potassium permanganate as detecting reagent has been worked out. The new impregnant is completely insoluble in water and thus enables the use of an aqueous developer. The Rf-values are 55 and 10 for glucose and sorbitol, respectively.
