Abstract

There are many areas of application for our model of consensus. The most obvious being economic, political, ethical, or all three combined. There are, however, other domains where consensus is germane. Perhaps the two most salient examples are those of science and language. The conception of science is social, science being the activity and product of a group of investigators. What is accepted as science is based on consensus within a scientific community. Again, when we speak of knowledge, of what is known, we implicitly refer to a group and an epistemic consensus within such a group. Finally, when we speak of a language, of the semantics and grammar of language, for example, we describe something communal and, therefore, consensual.
