Abstract
It was a privilege to have been a participant in the first International Symposium on Amyloidosis held under Dr. Mandema’s guidance in Groningen in 1967, and I am pleased to contribute to this volume in honor of Professor Mandema. It provides me with an opportunity to praise Professor Mandema’s very considerable foresight in organizing the original Groningen Symposium and also to review some of the developments in our ideas concerning the structure and derivation of amyloid.
