Zusammenfassung

Sowohl Unterschiede der naturgeographischen Ausstattung als auch unterschiedliche Inwertsetzung des Naturraums durch den Menschen schufen in den einzelnen Teilräumen des Kontinents Angloamerika recht verschiedenartige Voraussetzungen für die Entstehung, Entwicklung und Ausprägung von Städten. Leitlinien der frühesten Besiedlung und günstige wirtschaftliche Eignung, auf der andern Seite mangelnde Grundlagen für eine dichtere städtische Bevölkerung lassen sich bis heute gut an Zahl und Art der Städte in den verschiedenen Landesteilen ablesen.
