Zusammenfassung

Die beiden zuerst entdeckten gastrointestinalen Hormone sind Sekretin, welches 1902 von Bayliss u. Starling (Bayliss u. Starling 1902) sowie Gastrin, welches 1905 von Edkins (Edkins 1905) beschrieben wurde. Die Strukturaufklärung beider Hormone als Voraussetzung für die Identifizierung ihres zellulären Ursprungs und für den radioimmunologischen Nachweis erfolgte aber erst in den 60er Jahren durch Gregory für Gastrin (Gregory et al. 1964) und durch Mutt für das Sekretin (Mutt et al. 1970). Abb. 5.1 zeigt die Entdeckung gastrointestinaler Hormone — präziser ist die Bezeichnung „regulatorische Peptide“ — im Zeitraster. Der exponentielle Anstieg der Entdeckung neuer Peptide in den Jahren ab 1970 spiegelt den Protein-chemischen Fortschritt wieder. Abbildung 5.1 enhält Angaben über den Sekretionsmodus (endokrin, parakrin, neurokrin) sowie darüber, welches Hormon bei Überproduktion in einem Tumor ein charakteristisches klinisches Syndrom verursachen kann.
