Abstract
The key to doing better estimations of a software project is metrics. The metrics discussed are measures to estimate the duration of periods within the development phases of a software system.
HEWLETT-PACKARD practices metrics on a worldwide basis by definition of global, measurable goals which can be reduced into detailed actions. Goals are set by top management and directly impact every single project development.
The metrics discussed in this paper are calculations by using collected project data and models. Continuously increasing the productivity in HP’s software development process is the main objective. This leads to more efficient development and high quality software systems.
