Morphological and Functional Relationships between the Hypothalamo-Neurohypophysial System and Cerebrospinal Fluid

  • Conference paper

Abstract

According to previous studies (Rodríguez et al., 1970) the ventral group of neurons of the toad preoptic nucleus (VPO) gives origin to the Gomori-positive fibers that end in the neural lobe (Fig. 1). Many neurons of the VPO are bipolar with one process directed towards the hypophysial region (“hypophysial process”) and the other one towards the ependymal lining of the preoptic recess (“ventricular process”) (Fig. 2). The ventricular process is Gomori-positive in its initial portion more proximal to the perikaryon but is generally Gomori-negative in the vicinity of the ependyma (Fig. 2). Only occasionally the whole ventricular process, including its ventricular ending, is stained by the Gomori method (Fig. 3).
