Definitions
There are many paroxysmal disorders of childhood that have been associated with migraine. The link to migraine is very strong for some of these childhood syndromes, and more tenuous for others. The International Headache Society (The International Classification of Headache Disorders 2004) considers the following to be linked to migraine:
Abdominal migraine
Cyclic vomiting syndrome
Benign paroxysmal vertigo
Alternating hemiplegia of childhood
Familial hemiplegic migraine
Benign paroxysmal torticollis is probably associated with migraine, based on genetic links. Ophthalmoplegic migraine, originally considered to be linked to migraine, is probably not actually a migraine variant. Other disorders probably represent unusual auras of migraine rather than separate entities. These include acute confusional migraine, basilar-type migraine...
