Abstract

Endometriosis is a complex disease in which endometrial glands and stroma grow outside of the endometrial cavity. The classic symptoms of endometriosis consist of dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, pelvic pain and infertility. In the general reproductive-age population, the prevalence of endometriosis approaches 10 %, but in patients with infertility it can be as high as 50 %. These numbers likely underestimate the true incidence of endometriosis since endometriosis is often undiagnosed or misdiagnosed.
