Abstract
In this chapter, we propose the Arabic Chat Alphabet (ACA) for dialectal Arabic phonetic transcription. Our assumption is that ACA transcriptions include the short vowels that are missing in traditional Arabic orthography. Furthermore, ACA transcriptions can be rapidly prepared, and for some transcribers, it is even more convenient rather than traditional orthography. Furthermore, we propose a phonetic transcription notation that is based on ACA encoding. The proposed techniques in this chapter were applied with Egyptian Colloquial Arabic (ECA).
