Abstract

Arthropods in which:-

  1. 1.

    There is one pair of pre-oral appendages which are antenniform and sensory.

  2. 2.

    The mandibles bite the food using the tip of the whole limb.

  3. 3.

    Except in the Onychophora which show little regional differentiation, the body is divided into two regions (head and trunk) or three regions (head, thorax and abdomen).

  4. 4.

    The post-oral appendages of the head all serve as mouth parts; typically there are three pairs, of which the first is usually mandibulate and the remainder assist in feeding.

  5. 5.

    The second part of the body (trunk or thorax) always bears the walking legs. The abdomen may or may not bear appendages. The limbs are uniramous.
