Abstract:
Over the past ten years, the computerization of imagery and treatment tools has radically transformed radiotherapy procedures. Improvements have affected all the technical and methodological aspects of the thoracic irradiation: immobilization, three-dimensional imagery, the definition of target volumes and organs at risk, virtual simulation, three-dimensional calculation, ballistics, daily repositioning and breath control. There is no longer any possible comparison with two-dimensional radiotherapy based on a conventional radiological preparation. Some of the selected innovations are specific to thoracic topography and to the respiratory function, which make lung radiotherapy very complex. Clearly, such improvements make it possible to optimise treatment quality and to consider personalized protocols.
